Who is this course for?

LEVEL 1 Rope Access Technician

This course is for all workers at height or those seeking a career in rope access.
A Level 1 Rope Access Technician is able to perform a limited range of rope access tasks under the supervision of a Level 3 Supervisor.

LEVEL 2 Rope Access Technician

The course is for IRATA Level 1 Rope Access Technicians who wish to upgrade to IRATA Level 2 Rope Access Technician.

A level 2 lead rope access technician is capable of rigging working ropes, undertaking rescues and performing rope access tasks under the supervision of an IRATA approved level 3 rope access supervisor. The candidate should have some knowledge of relevant legislation, safety requirements and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access.

LEVEL 3 Rope Access Technician

A level 3 rope access supervisor shall be capable of taking complete responsibility for rope access safety during work projects and will be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation.

To be able to demonstrate all the skills and knowledge of levels 1 and 2, have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques and the IRATA certification scheme and be familiar with the contents of the IRATA International Code of Practice.

Prerequisites

LEVEL 1 Rope Access Technician

No previous experience or qualification is required for this entry-level rope access course.
Due to the physical nature of the course, candidates must have a reasonable level of fitness and will be required to complete a self-declaration of fitness to train.(If unsure please contact us).

LEVEL 2 Rope Access Technician

1,000 hours and 12 months of work experience as an IRATA Level 1. This experience shall include a wide variety of work situations and techniques.

LEVEL 3 Rope Access Technician

1000 hours and a minimum of 12 months experience as an IRATA level 2. This experience shall include a wide variety of work situations and techniques.

PLEASE NOTE:

All candidates should be physically fit and free from any disability or medical condition that may prevent them from working safely. They shall ensure that they have an adequate level of fitness, and are physically able to perform the tasks expected in terms of strength, agility and co-ordination, and are able to withstand the stresses of the working environment such as heat, cold, and other inclement weather.

The minimum age of candidates is 18 years.

LEVEL 1 Rope Access Technician
Course Content:

  • Relevant legislation, guidelines and standards
  • Safe working practices
  • Fitting and function of all personal equipment used in rope access
  • Strengths and limitations of equipment
  • Inspection, documentation and maintenance of equipment
  • Selection and use of anchors
  • Introduction to knots and rigging ropes
  • Range of rope manoeuvres required by IRATA including:-
  • Descending and ascending using a rope and backup rope
  • Basic hauling and lowering system
  • Aid climbing and fall arrest technique
  • Basic rescue techniques
LEVEL 2 Rope Access Technician
Course Content:

The course will cover the range of tasks undertaken by an IRATA level 1 in rope access, plus:-

  • Ropes, rigging and associated equipment – the rigging of ropes for work and rescue situations
  • Knowledge of safe use of the following: wire strops, tape slings, deviations, intermediate anchors, mid-rope knots, beam clamps, rope protection, expansion or resin anchors, strengths and safe loading, characteristics and uses of relevant knots
  • Rescue – the candidate shall demonstrate the following rescue systems from various working positions: hauling, lowering, the use of cableways and the rescue of an ‘unconscious’ casualty using more advanced techniques gained during the course
  • Legislation, guidelines and standards – knowledge and awareness of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.

LEVEL 3 Rope Access Technician
Course Content:

The course will cover all the skills and knowledge required of level 1 and 2 technicians.

  • The rescue and rigging techniques of level 1 and level 2
  • Advanced rescue system
  • Advanced pulley systems
  • Equipment inspection, documentation and maintenance
  • Worksite organisation and planning

During the course candidates will be required to demonstrate knowledge of a variety of work environments and experience of the topics being covered.
