Who is this course for?

This course is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Prerequisites

The minimum age for candidates is 18 years.

Course content

During this course, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including:

    • The roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aider
    • Assessing an incident
    • Managing an unresponsive casualty
    • CPR
    • Recovery Position
    • Choking
    • Seizures
    • Shock
    • Wounds and bleeding
    • Minor injuries: 
         ◦ Cuts, grazes and bruises
         ◦ Minor burns and scalds

Delivery method and assesment

Lectures and practical elements. The course assessment is by short written test and a heavy emphasis on continuous practical assessment.
