Who is this course for?

This course is for people who deal with emergency first aid at work enabling them to be workplace first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is also aimed at people with specific interest or responsibility in voluntary and community activities, enabling them to provide BLS when dealing with an emergency situation which may involve using an AED.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be at least 18 years on the first day of training. There are no other formal entry requirements.

Course content

The objective of the qualification is to benefit delegates by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, and safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

SUBJECTS COVERED:

  • Managing unresponsive casualties who are breathing normally
  • Managing unresponsive casualties who are not breathing normally
  • How to safely use an AED
  • CPR
  • Recovery position

Delivery method and assesment

Lectures and practical elements. The course assessment is by short written test and a heavy emphasis on continuous practical assessment.
