Who is this course for?
Aimed at persons who act as Top Man (non-entry) for those working in medium risk confined spaces with difficult entry/exit. This course follows the Medium Risk course without actual entry into the confined space. The course complies with the Level 2 Award in Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces (Top Man) (Non entrant) (6150-06 - Water and 6150-56 - Non-water). For those working in the water industry - Water UK categorisation is not applicable. This qualification has superseded City & Guilds 5831 Confined Spaces Unit 825.
Prerequisites
Due to the physical nature of the course, candidates must have a reasonable level of fitness and will be required to complete a self-declaration of fitness to train (if unsure, please contact us). The minimum age for candidates is 18 years.
Course content
OBJECTIVES:
- Control entry and exit of confined spaces
- Use equipment and tools safely and in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications
- Follow procedures and work safely
- Deal with emergencies
COURSE CONTENT:
This unit is about working as a top man in confined space environments where there is a medium risk that a specified hazard may be present and require those entering to carry escape breathing apparatus.
The learner will be positioned outside the confined space and have designated responsibilities for controlling the entry and dealing with emergencies i.e. raising alarm and assisting entrant to exit the confined space safely.
Delivery method and assesment
Lectures and practical elements. The course assessment is by short written test and a heavy emphasis on continuous practical assessment.
