RIG's portfolio of confined space programmes follow the international standards as set by the International Rescue Instructor's Authority. This means our training team has direct access to the most current and sophisticated confined space technology, methodology and facilities. Our local training facilities include a 30m vertical shaft, collapsed structures, gantry systems and enclosed vessels.

These programmes are compliant with CITB requirements and consequently may attract funding. Please refer to your local CITB office.


MANAGING CONFINED SPACES - CSO1

Description:

Regulation 5 of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 state "no person at work shall enter or carry out work in a confined space unless there have been, in respect of that confined space, suitable and sufficient arrangements for rescue in the event of an emergency, whether or not arising out of a specific risk." This programme provides the necessary knowledge and technical skills to implement best practice safety management systems.

The 1/2-day programme covers the following areas:
Confined space health and safety legislation
 Risk assessments and safe systems of work
 Permit to Works
 Personal Protective Equipment and atmosphere measuring technology
Emergency plans


CONFINED SPACES WITH UNKNOWN ATMOSPHERES - CSO2
Description:

Confined spaces are prone to atmosphere instability and these require additional skills to implement suitable and sufficient risk controls to control those dangerous to health. This programme focuses on the establishment of safe atmosphere monitoring systems and emergency drills.

The 1-day programme covers the following areas:
Confined space health and safety legislation
Correct donning, doffing and maintenance of PPE
Safe systems of work for atmospheres dangerous to life and health
Selection, use and maintenance of ELSAs
Emergency drills


CONFINED SPACE ENTRY WITH VERTICAL ACCESS & ESCAPE SETS - CSO3
Description:

This programme is suited for technicians required to undertake work tasks in unstable or unknown atmospheres with difficult access / egress. The programme follows the same 1 day syllabus as CS02 with an additional 8 hour vertical access and traverse module.

The 2-day programme covers the following areas:
CS02
 Use of quad/tripod double line systems with winch and fall arrest systems
Simple Traverse techniques
Emergency drills


MULTIPLE LEVEL CONFINED SPACE ACCESS & RESCUE WITH FULL BA - CSO4
Description:

Technicians undertaking work tasks in atmospheres dangerous to life and health will need to be fully conversant with the use of full Breathing Apparatus. In addition, confined space rescue procedures in accordance with the Confined Space Regulations 1997, may require a rescue team pre-positioned onsite. This programme follows the same 2 day syllabus as CS03 with an additional 8 hour compromised atmosphere search and rescue module.

The 3-day programme covers the following areas:
CS03.
Multiple level traverse systems.
Selection, use and basic maintenance of Breathing Apparatus.
Emergency first aid.


FALL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT COMPETENT PERSON
Description
The Work at Height Regulations 2005, the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), all stipulate the requirement for periodic equipment inspections carried out by competent persons. LOLER, the most prescriptive inspection related legislation, stipulates "Thorough Examinations" must be undertaken every 6 months by a competent person and the results must be recorded and held for 2 years. In addition, "Inspections" should be carried out by a competent person every time the equipment is subjected to abnormal circumstances such as overloading or contamination. The PPE and Lifting Equipment Competent Person is a stand alone programme designed to train equipment custodians to Thoroughly Examine and Inspect all items of PPE and Lifting Equipment used by their organisation.
This 2-day programme covers the following areas:
Height related health and safety.
 Equipment failure.
  Fall protection systems.
  Selection and use of PPE and Lifting Equipment.
  Inspecting and examining PPE and Lifting Equipment.
  Equipment management systems and record keeping.
  Equipment repair and disposal.


BOLT INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN
Description
For many work at height tasks, the location of existing structural anchors are unsuitable. Installing and testing safety harness bolts either for PPE (Fall Arrest) or work positioning is quick, cost effective and low impact. When installing bolts that conform to BS EN 795 A1, technicians must be competent in accordance with BS 7883.
This 1-day programme covers the following areas:
Height related health and safety.
Selection and use of bolt installation work equipment.
Anchor selection.
Chemical bolt placement and installation.
Mechanical bolt placement and installation.
Testing procedures and recording requirements.
RIG also provide a bolt installation and testing service installing anchors to BS EN 7883 and undertaking pullout tests for mechanical and chemical anchors up to 100kN.
