The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require
employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities
and personnel to enable first aid to be given to their employees
if they become injured or fall ill at work. The level of medical
training and cover required depends upon many factors including
the level of risk of injury or illness. The minimum first
aid provision on any work site is an Appointed Person and
a suitably stocked First Aid Container.
| RIG, in partnership
with Duchy College, are licensed by the HSE to deliver
the 4 day First Aid at Work and 2 day First Aid at Work
Refresher courses which enable employers to fulfil their
obligations regarding The Health and Safety (First Aid)
Regulations 1981. |

MEDICAL TRAINING PORTFOLIO:
First
Aid at Work / First Aid at Work Refresher
This comprehensive programme is designed to train designated
"First Aiders" for the workplace. The HSE approved
syllabus equips personnel with sufficient First Aid knowledge
to deal effectively with a range of most common medical situations
in the work place until the arrival of the Emergency Services.
Competency is determined via assessment on day 4. A two day
refresher programme is also available for those First Aiders
with current valid certificates seeking to update and re-qualify.
Appointed
Persons First Aid
An Appointed Person is an employee specifically appointed
by an employer to take charge of the first aid equipment and
facilities provided in the event of an emergency. The Approved
Code of Practice that accompanies the Health and Safety (First
Aid) Regulations 1981 strongly recommends the need for emergency
first aid training for Appointed Persons. This 4 to 8 hour
programme instructs an individual in the rendering of immediate
life support to an injured person until medical assistance
is available i.e. arrival of the Designated First Aider or
the Emergency Services. This programme is accredited by EMT.
Lone
Worker Self Aid

and facilities which are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances
for administering first aid to his / her employees. The Lone
Workers Self Aid programme, as the title suggests, focuses
on specific training for lone workers and covers the immediate
self-treatment for common trauma, medical conditions and illnesses.
