The revised Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM), which came into force in April 2007, introduced the Stage 1 Core Criteria for assessing health and safety competence of contractors and consultants working in the construction industry. The introduction of these competence criteria provided an opportunity for existing Health and Safety prequalification schemes to build on and formalise mutual recognition already in operation amongst some schemes.

All your work practices will be systematically assessed to identify potential risks to your employees and customers.

A risk assessment will be made and written for each hazard found (probably many more than you thought).

These assessments will then be incorporated into a constantly evolving Health and Safety Policy Document to be reviewed annually which you will own.
